How to help during COVID-19

The Verb Team wearing matching t-shirts

Since the rapid outbreak of COVID-19, life for many of us has changed intensely. During a time like this, it’s important that we stick together. We’ve compiled a list of ways to support small businesses and a few resources for those who are struggling as a result of these difficult times. Remember, we’re in this together.

Donate to a fundraiser that supports small businesses

Small businesses and freelancers have taken a major hit due to COVID-19. Being that a great deal of jobs lie in the service industry, a lot of them have closed or are being forced to downsize tremendously. Freelancers and sole-proprietors have been left completely jobless due to the nature of their roles. Companies are tightening budgets and outsourced freelancers have been one of the first things to go. Show your support by donating a few dollars to someone who is self-employed through this GoFundMe.

As a brand, Verb is rooted in the salon so it’s only natural for us to want to help those behind the chair. In response to all the salons and small businesses that have been shut down, we’ll be selling our T-Shirt with a Cause. All proceeds of this t-shirt will be donated to the Professional Beauty Association to aid those who are currently unemployed due to COVID-19. With options ranging between $25 and $50, feel free to pay whatever you feel comfortable with. We’ll deduct $9.49 from it and send the rest to PBA.

Buy merch from indie restaurants

Self-distancing and quarantining has caused a lot of restaurants to close. To help combat that, food writer Helen Rosner, created an ongoing round-up of t-shirt, caps and other merch you can purchase directly from various indie restaurants to help bring them business. Check out the highlights on her Instagram page to take your pick.

Be the change you want to see

Help doesn’t always have to be monetary. Show your support by backing others  and help change the system. Since the rapid outbreak, resources have been scarce and unfortunately have left a lot of people uncertain about their health and overall livelihood. Below is a list of running petitions to help various groups. As always, we urge you to do your own research to make sure you’re impacting the cause that makes sense for you.
